React Applications: four small apps, four core React skills

Four small React apps: a meme generator, a superhero squad builder, a decision maker and an age calculator. Each one practises a different core skill, and all now run on React 19 and Vite.

The apps

  • Meme Generator: Redux with redux-thunk to call the imgflip API, with errors shown to the user and credentials kept in environment variables.
  • SuperSquad: separate reducers for the character list and the squad, with stats calculated from state rather than stored twice.
  • Indecision App: options saved in the browser, Sass organised per component, and an accessible result popup.
  • Age Teller: exact age in years, months and days from real calendar dates, so leap years are handled correctly.

The 2026 update

I first built these while learning React in 2019. In 2026 I moved them to React 19 and Vite and fixed bugs along the way.
